Meet Kate O'Grady
Being an Accredited Specialist in Family Law means that Kate has been independently assessed by the Law Society of New South Wales as being an expert in the field of family law – something Kate achieved in 2011. Kate is incredibly passionate about family law and helping clients navigate the challenging and complex family law system. Kate cares about her clients and works tirelessly to achieve the best outcome possible for them – using her excellent communication and negotiation skills to try and achieve an amicable resolution through negotiation and other alternative dispute resolution options or through litigation, if necessary. Kate is an experienced advocate, appearing regularly in the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court registries in Parramatta, Sydney and Newcastle.
Kate is the only Central Coast family lawyer recognised as a ‘Leading’ family lawyer in the 2019 Doyle’s Guide and in 2017 Kate was awarded ‘Private Practice Lawyer of the Year’ through the Women Lawyer’s Association of NSW as a result of her skills & expertise, in recognition of her contribution to the profession through mentoring of other junior solicitors and development of local educational seminars and in recognition of her contribution to the local community through her work and volunteering at local Central Coast High Schools.
Kate has an excellent grasp of family law and is able to competently advise clients in all complex areas of family law whilst communicating in a way that clients can easily understand. Kate has a keen attention to detail and is highly skilled in drafting legal Court documents and Agreements. Kate likes to build rapport and a working relationship with her clients to ensure that they feel heard and supported through what can be one of the most difficult times in most people’s lives.
Kate is highly regarded as being one of the best family lawyers on the Central Coast – but also someone that clients and colleagues can relate to on a personal level. Kate is friendly, outgoing and has a great sense of humour but can also be a fierce opponent if you happen to find her on the other side of your matter.
Outside of family law, Kate loves the beautiful Central Coast beaches, yoga, dancing, travel, spending time with friends and family – including her two rescue dogs.
Kate is passionate about helping those less fortunate – both animals and humans and regularly donates to charities aimed at helping the most disadvantaged. Kate currently sponsors a baby orangutan, baby elephant and baby rhino through animal charities and two ‘sisters’ through Women for Women International.
Kate is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and the Head of our Family Law team. Kate joined Aubrey Brown as our Family Law Team Leader in August 2019, having previously worked as a Partner/Director in a specialist National Family Law firm and practicing exclusively in family law for the past 13 years, both in Sydney and on the Central Coast, having relocated from Sydney to the Central Coast in 2013.
